Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO)- Bangalore observed a week long campaign for school children from 14th of November 2011 to 20th of November 2011. The theme of the Campaign was 'Let my brightness illuminate the world'. As part of the Campaign, various programs were done for the students in many schools. Children's Day was celebrated in a number of schools throughout the city. Guidance programs including career counselling was imparted to the students. At the conclusion of the Campaign, students were taken for a picnic to different places in the city including the Museum, Planetorium, etc,. A large number of students were addressed in this Campaign and were encouraged to contribute to the society through their education. The principals of the schools in which the programs were done appreciated the efforts of SIO and hoped that it carries out such programs in the future on a regular basis.

Associates Meet held at Hegde Nagar

The guest speakers addressed the delegates on different topics and motivated them to work for the cause of Islam.

The Unit Presidents, Area Organizers and other representatives of the city met on Sunday the 17th of september 2011 and discussed regarding the work of the organisation going around the city.

Br. Syed Kazim(City President, SIO) gave the introductory speech followed by motivational talks by Br. Uzair Belgami(Unit President, Bangalore Central) and Br. musab Iqbal(CAC Member, SIO). Later a panel discussion was held in which Br. Misbah(AO, Banashankari), Br. Misbah (AO, Yeshwantpur) and Br. Osama (AO, Benson town) discussed on issues relating to the activities in their particular areas.

About the Film :

A road movie about Indian democracy that follows the trail of Mahatma Gandhi’s famous salt march of 1930. Mohammed Zeeshan wins 1st prize

An associate of SIO - Yeshwantpur Area, Mohammed Zeeshan Refath won the First place in Model Making Competition held at Mahaveer Jain College which was held at 18th August 2011. A student of Sri Jagathguru Renukacharya Pre University College studying in 2nd PU, Zeeshan took part in the Inter Collegiate Physics Fest and won the competition. His model was of Mars Rover which he had named as 'Spirit'.

SIO stall at Big Bazaar

Students Islamic Organisation of India- Bangalore City had put up a stall at Big Bazaar, Indranagar in order to spread the message of Islam.

The stall was placed from the 16th of August till the 30th of August 2011.

Many people who visited Big Bazaar witnessed the stall and gained useful information about Islam and Muslims. Free copies of the Quran along with pamplets giving basic information of Islam were gifted to the Non-Muslim visitors.

Iftar Party for Brindavan College students

Students Islamic Organisation of India- Bangalore North Unit organised an Iftar get-together for students on the 26^th of August 2011, at BIFT Hall Darussalam. The program was attended by students coming from different parts of the city including 30 Non-Muslim brothers.

SIO Bangalore City President Br. Syed Kazim addressed the gathering on the message of Ramzan and enlightened the basic principles of Islam. He also invited the gathering to think and ponder over the teachings of Islam.

Later the guests were provided with dinner and at the mean time charts which explain the basic concepts of Isdlam were put up. The volunteers explained the charts to the students. Also the guest were given informative pamphlets as a gift of Ramzan.

Spirit of Sportsmanship

A cricket match was played between Bangalore North Unit and Bangalore Central Unit at the HMT Playground in RT Nagar on the 31st of July 2011. The cadre who took part in the competition showed a great sense of sportsmanship.

With Bangalore North winning the toss and selecting to bat first, a well executed target of 77 runs in 10 overs was set for the Bangalore Central Unit. Later on the excellent partnership between Br. Atheeq and Br. Adil enabled the Bangalore Central team to chase the score and win the match in another 10 balls to spare. Br. Atheeq was declared 'Man of the Match' for his terrific all round performance.

Have secured minimum 60% marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics in SSC (10+2) examination except for Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu who should have 70% in the aggregate in above four subjects.

SIO demands exclusion of Pri. & Sec. Education Minister from Cabinet

“The statement -those who oppose the Bhagvad Gita Campaign should get lost from India- uttered by Vishweshwar Hegade Kageri, Minister for education is very much deplorable” said Ashfaq Ahmed Shareef, President SIO of India Karnataka Zone, demanding his exclusion from the cabinet.

“Being custodian of a responsible position like Education Minister, Mr. Kageri has articulated against the spirit of constitution and secularism. His statements depicts as if he has forgotten the existence of democracy in the state. Such irresponsible and irrational statements lead to the disharmony in the society. As Constitution it-self guarantees the right to assess the authorities, statement of Education Minister raises suspicions over his understanding of Constitution. Either he should resign or the honorable Chief Minister should exclude him from the cabinet, demands SIO.

SIO supports the introduction of human and moral values in education system by means of religious scriptures; at the same time it demands that, religious sentiments of other part of student community should not be hurt. This process should be complimenting to the all religions, caste and beliefs; and not the compelled enforcement of particular faith. If the Government its-self fails in leading the way of upholding constitutional values, the same cannot be expected from the public. Minister himself has to bear the onus of consequences of his statement, warns SIO.

Instead of focusing on the enhancing the quality of Government schools and preventing the rampant commercialization of education, which is against our culture and values; it is unfortunate to observe his efforts in promoting misunderstanding among students and society. Pre-Matric Scholarships for Minority students

The Government of Karnataka- Dept. of Minorities have announced scholarships for students belonging to the minority communities pursuing education from Std. I to X.

Who can apply ?

Applications are invited from the students belonging to the minority communities pursuing education from class I to X in Government / Government Aided / Recognized Private Schools / Institutions for Pre-Matric Scholarship to be awarded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.

Conditions

To be eligible, Student should have scored not less than 50% of marks in previous final examination. In case of Class-I students, 50% marks requirement will not apply, only the income criteria will be applicable.
The annual income of the student's parents/ guardian from all sourses should not exceed Rs. 1 Lakh (One Lakh). Enclose attested copy of Income Certificate issued by Tahsildar or Original Income Affidavit.
The students who have been sanctioned scholarship for 2010-11 are eligible to apply for renewal for 2011-12, on scoring 50% and above marks in the previous examination.
Applications received after the last date will not be considered.
Incomplete Application and Incomplete documents will not be considered.

Documentary Club started at Students' Centre

SIO - Bangalore has initiated a documentary screening session at Students' Centre (1st floor, Darussalam Building, Queens Road). The Documentary screening will be done every alternate saturday at 7pm.

The first screening was done on the 18th of June 2011 in which the documentary titled " The Power of Nightmares" was screened. The session was witnessed by students coming from different parts of the city.

We appreciate the decision of the university and for understanding the problems of the students. The affected students can now move ahead with their academics and towards a bright future. Praise be to God Almighty that the efforts of SIO have proved to be fruitful.

In order to show our support to the decision taken by the university, a delegation from SIO - Bangalore visited the Vice Chancellor's office on the 17th of June 2011. An appreciation letter along with "Students Charter" momento and activities brochure were presented to the Vice Chancellor Mr. Prabhu Dev.

SIO condemns the step taken by BU for with-drawing the grace marks allotted to the MBA students when their 3rd semester results were re-announced this month. Hundreds of students have been affected by this decision of the University. With-drawing the allotted grace marks after such a long time is not at all justified.

Regarding this, a delegation of SIO-Bangalore comprising of Br. Shoaib Mohammed (PR Secretary) and Br. Mansoor Ahmed (AO-City Market) visited the office of the Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University on the 14th of June 2011. The delegation met the Secretary of the VC and the Dean of Dept. Commerce and Management, Canara College and expressed its concern on the inconvenience caused by the University to the students. The delegation stressed upon them to take this issue seriously and solve it as soon as possible. A letter addressed by the City President Br. Syed Kazim was later submitted to the Vice Chancellor Office.

Quran Campaign at Bangalore Central Unit

The Bangalore Central Unit of SIO observed the Quran Campaign from 21th May to 29th May 2011. The Campaign was started with an orientation camp at Masjid-e-Rahma on 21-22 May 2011. Indivdual plans for the cadre were assigned by the Unit President Br. Uzair Belgami. The areas of the unit conducted tajweed sessions everyday. The Campaign was concluded on 29th May in which different orators spoke on the importance of Quran and its impact on our lives.

A Quran Quiz Competition was conducted during the program in which questions based on the verses of the Quran were asked. The HAL area team were declared winners of this competition. The winners were awarded by the City President Br. Syed Kazim, who later gave the concluding remarks on the Quran Campaign.

Quran Campaign Program - Bangalore North Unit

The Quran campaign was observed with full zeal from the cadre of SIO Bangalore North Unit from 6th may as per the campaign dates. Every day of the campaign was fulfilled with the learning of the different concepts, terms and different aspects of the Quran.

During the whole campaign the cadre was motivated to recite the Quran and documentaries were also shown in this regard. The program was scheduled on every evening from Maghrib to Isha at sa’ad bin Abi Waqaas Masjid, R T Nagar.

The concluding program was held on 15th may at 10:30 am at the same venue. Around 25 cadres were present with Zonal Representative Br. Syed Kazim (ZAC) concluding the program and appealing them to hold fast to the Quran and addressing the Cadre he said that the campaign has not come to an end but it has started now.

'Education- My Identity' Press Conference

Students Islamic Organisation of India has been engaged in various student welfare activities from past 28 years across the nation. Having education & students as prime focus, SIO wants to build a healthy society on the basis of moral and humanitarian values. In order to achieve said objective SIO has been conducting various activities and campaigns from time to time on various issues.

Educational awareness campaign is one of such activity which has been observed from about two decades continuously for the betterment of the educational condition.

This year Educational Awareness Campaign will be observed from 20th May to 30th May 2011 with the central theme “Education My Identity”. The main objective of this campaign is to inculcate the interest and passion for education among the backward and underdeveloped section of the society.

Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) - Bangalore city addressed a press conference at the Press Club of Bangalore on 19th May 2011 in order to spread the message about the 10 day Educational Awareness Campaign starting from 20th May to 30th May 2011. The addressers were introduced to the media by Br. Shoaib Mohammed (PR Secretary). Br. Syed Kazim (City President) and Br. Mansoor Ahmed (AO- City Market) addressed the media and provided the details about the campaign. A total of 12 media persons were present at the press conference.

Summer Islamic Camps throughout Bangalore City

The Units of SIO- Bangalore organized Summer Islamic Camps at various places for boys with an objective to impart true Islamic knowledge and understanding of the Islamic Movement.

SIO Bangalore North Conducted Summer Classes for Children at two places one at R T Nagar at Sa’d bin Abi Waqaus Masjid and the other at Yeshwanthpur at Mehmood Sherrif Polytechnic College. There were around 130 students who benefitted from the classes. The children were given the fundamental knowledge of Islam and its etiquettes were thought to them in the practical manner. They were also made to involve in many team building activities and talents hunt activities.

SIO Bangalore South conducted Summer Islamic camp at Islamic Center from 19th to 29th April. With 59 registrations from Tilak Nagar and BTM it was a great success.
The first session of every day was a session on explaining the small Surahs of the Quran and using that explaining the basic concepts of Islam. The next Islamic Morals class taught the students the basics of Islam which was used as a platform to teach good manners and etiquettes to the kids. A dedicated one hour session every day was kept to encourage all round development of the kids where various activities like video display, games like pick-and-speak, recitations etc… were held.The trip to HAL Museum was highly informative and also was a great success. The younger kids thoroughly enjoyed the large display of planes and helicopters while the older boys were inspired towards army and air force services.
Janab Dr. Taha Mateen Sab addressed the gathering on the conclusion program and imbibed thankfulness into the kids. His speech was very much inspiring for the kids.

Bangalore Central Unit organized a residential camp which was conducted from 4th May to 8th May 2011. The Camp was held at Al-Ameen Residential School. Around 35 students attended the camp. The Camp was based on five themes, one theme focused per day. The themes were:
1. Who am I?
2. Who is God?
3. What is Society?
4. What Now?
5. What Next?

Quran Campaign

The Qur'an is the ultimate guide for mankind sent by Almighty Allah. It gives us solutions to all our problems and provides a complete code of life. As the twentieth century comes to an end it is time to reflect on our achievements and failures in responding to the Qur'anic challenge of creating a good society on earth. The entire human history has been a history of the struggle to bring about this ideal society. The ideal that Islam is seeking is also a universal ideal for the entire humanity. It has been a mission of all the prophets and all the sages to see that humanity through its spiritual and moral perfection brings about the establishment of a just community. Protest against Engineering Fee Hike

Students from different parts of the city participated in the protest. The Memorandum was submitted to the DC and the cadre informed him to take strict action against the culprits involved in the leak.
The City President Br. Syed Kazim addressed the media and demanded that the Government take strict action in this issue.

Islamic Conference Return towards your Lord and His Prophet (pbuh)

SIO organized a Junior Associates Circle program for students on the 28^th of January 2011 at The Qhuddus Saheb Eidgah (Hajj Camp). 650 students from 6 different schools took part in the program. The Junior Associates Circle students showcased their talent through tarana, qirath, speech and skit. Janab Rafeeq Ahmed (Secretary, JIH, Headquarter), addressed the students on the topic, “Students role in the future”. The program was followed with a visit to the Islamic exhibition by the students.

SIO also organized a day long program for students and youths. The program started with the viewing of the Islamic Exhibition followed by the Inter- Collegiate Quiz Competition. The students witnessed a Cultural Program on the topic “Return towards your Lord” and a Video Documentary on the Life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Chief Guests for the program were Br. Muhammad Azharuddin (National President- SIO), Moulana Rafiq Qasmi (Islamic Scholar and Orator) and Moulana Yousuf Islahi (Islamic Scholar, Writer and Orator).

The National President of SIO, Br. Muhammad Azharuddin addressed the students on the “Role of Muslim Students in the Present Society”. The students were told to contribute to Islam as much as possible and be the leaders of tomorrow. The ill effects of Consumerism on the Student Community were highlighted and the students were encouraged to bring about moral values and ethics in the Campus.

The results of the ‘Open Islamic Quiz’ which was conducted in many schools and colleges throughout Bangalore were announced and the top 5 scorers were awarded specially by the Chief Guests.

Moulana Yousuf Islahi addressed the students on the topic “Islam and the Purpose of Life”. The students were told to be God conscious and follow the Islamic Way of Life completely.

The talk was followed by a documentary launch titled “THE CHOICE” – Choose your Destiny. It is a documentary on Islam, an initiative of Karnataka South Region”.

Students Islamic Organisation of India, Bangalore organized the Muslim Students Meet at BIFT. Br Abu Bakr Ruknuddin, spoke on the topic "The Message of Ramadan" He explained that the real objective of Ramadan is to make a Muslim completely submissive to Allah by bringing him closer to the teaching of the Holy Quran.

Br Abu Bakr's talk was followed by a very interactive and thought provoking talk on the topic "The purpose of Muslim Ummah" by Br Masab Iqbal, CAC member of SIO. Br Masab emphasized that the true purpose of the Muslim Ummah is to be saviors and benefactors of humanity by enjoining truth and forbidding evil.

A number of students attended the program which concluded by Dua and Iftar.

Anti Tobacco Campaign by SIO Bangalore

Students Islamic Organisation of India conducted a two week long Anti Tobacco Campaign in Bangalore City called "SAY NO TO TOBACCO" to create awareness among students and youths about the harmful effects of Tobacco use.

A Press Conference was held in this regard in the Press Club of India.
Br Uzair Belgami, Convener of Anti Tobacco Campaign, Br Abdul Hameed and Br Asim Khan, City President SIO Bangalore addressed the Media persons and explained why SIO Bangalore was conducting this campaign and the activities that would be carried out during the course of the campaign.

The Campiagn began with a training workshop for the volunteers.
A visit to the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology to experience the patients suffering from cancer was also a part of the training workshop.

Dr Imran Khan, Phd Psychology social work conducted the workshop on the topic "Tobacco and addiction in youth". He explained what attracts teenagers to use tobacco, how addiction occurs and ways to tackle it.

A student documentary on tobacco addiction and de addiction called "Stop it!" was also shown in the workshop.

The workshop concluded by teams formation of the volunteers for the Campaign.

Counseling programs were conducted in a number of schools across Bangalore reaching out to around 2,500 students. Creative stickers and pamplets were distributed among the students to spread the message. After each presentation students were made to perform a short skit on the topic "Say No to Tobacco"

The students were also made to sign a pledge which had a message that they would never get in to the habit of using tobacco and create awareness among others.

3 Day Islamic Exhibition and Conference - " Salvation" organised by SIO Bangalore

Students Islamic Organisation of India – Bangalore, organized a 3 day Conference & Exhibition from 14^th to 16^th November 2009 at Darussalam Building, Queens Road, Bangalore. The Conference had talks on various thought provoking topics by eminent personalities the Exhibition featured more than 40 panels on different aspects of Islam. Few stalls which sold Islamic DVDs, stickers, books, T-shirts, burqas were also put up.

The 3 day event was organised to realize peace, justice, human rights, moral values and propagate the true message of Islam to Muslims and non-Muslim brothers and sisters with a view to promote realistic global unity.

Day - 1

The first day, the Exhibition was open for the general public from 10 am. The formal inauguration of the Exhibition was done by Sri Sri Sri Shivarudra Mahaswamy at 3:30 pm which was followed by a program where various speakers like Mr. Kandgal, Sri Sri Sri Shivarudra Mahaswamy, Dr. Saad Belgami and Mr. Shoukath Ali addressed the gathering.

The evening’s program featured a talk by Dr. Shariq Nisar on the topic “Recession – Cause & Effect”. The talk was followed by question & answers session and a Documentary Launch, “WAR WITH GOD?” The Documentary is on Interest (Riba). The Documentary was launched by Dr. Shariq Nisar, Dr. Saad Belgami, Mr. Shoukath Ali & Mr. Shahid.

Day - 2

The second day, the Exhibition was open for the general public from 10 am. The first talk of the day was at 11:30 am by Mr. Umar Sharrief on the topic “The Current World Problems and their Solutions”. The talk was followed by a Question & Answer session.

At 3 pm the Conference featured a talk in Malyalam on “Fabric the Life with Religious Harmony” by Basheeruddin Shirqi.

Dr. Saad Belgami delivered a presentation on the topic “Quran – Basic tenets of Faith.

The last talk of the day was by Mr. Gaurav Ahmed Nainwal on the topic “The Concept of God”. All the talks were followed by a question and answer session.

Day – 3

The third day, the Exhibition was open for the general public from 10 am. The first program for the day was a workshop by Mr. Syed Habeeb. More than 300 students from different schools and colleges from across Bangalore took part in the event.

The next talk of the day was a completely ladies program. A talk on “Women’s action for Women’s Right & Dignity” was delivered by Nasera Khanam Saheba. More than 300 ladies attended the program.

Dr. Saad Belgami also delivered a presentation on the topic “Quran – Universal Humanitarian Charter.

The last talk of the conference was on a fascinating topic “Religion, Science and Common Sense – Experts prove Science and Religion” by Mr. Arif Vakeel, moderated by Dr. Taha Mateen. The talk was followed by an interesting question and answer session.

The event was covered by News 9, E TV, Deccan Herald, The Hindu, Udayawani, Rashtriya Sahara and Salar, more than 2000 people attended the program.

Iftar Party

SIO Bangalore organised an iftar party for non muslim students and youths on 6th september Sunday in COS Hall, Darrusalam.

Dr Taha Mateen ( Managing Director Acura Hospital ) was the honorable chief guest.

The Program began with a combined Iftar. After Magrib Dr Mateen gave a talk on why Muslims observe the fast in the month of Ramadan and explained the basic concepts of the islamic faith. The talk was followed by a Question and Answer session.

Education Guidance Cell has been formed by SIO Bangalore and a training program was conducted on 19-04-09 to train the counsellors.

The counsellors will individually counsel SSLC and PUC students to guide them to the right course depending on there interest, skills and aptitude. The activists of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioners office on Saturday condemning the attacks taking place on the student community across the district in the recent days.

A large number of students took part in the demonstration holding placards that read “Break the silence, stop the violence”- the theme of the SIO campaign.

Addressing the protesters, SIO State President Showkat Ali K said the assaults on the innocent did not reflect the capacity of the attackers but their cowardness and weakness. “Violence has never been victorious. It is only love and reconciliation that can win the wars,” he noted.

Referring to the recent incident in Puttur where two members of the organisation were beaten up allegedly by some Hindutva activists, Ali said if the members had followed rules while pasting the posters, they can be fined as per law, but assaulting them is objectionable.

He appealed the police “to be the followers of Constitution, but not the fascist groups”. Speaking on the occasion, Badria PU College Principal Dr N Ismail regretted that despite steep increase in the number of student organisations in the recent years, the unity among them has declined.

“Students need to be united and protest whenever they experience injustice. When some problem arises in the campus, that should be informed to the institution head; instead students themselves should not take actions,” he appealed. “Do the so called guardians of culture know what is the real meaning of Indian culture?” he asked. SIO Condemns attacks on Palestine

Students Islamic Organisation of India, Bangalore city cadres protested against Israeli barbarism on innocent peoples of Gaza. Addressing the gathering of students at Mahatma Gandhi Statue, Mr. Shoukat Ali, newly elected zonal president of SIO Karnataka, strongly condemned the heinous, barbaric act of Israel and its only supporter US, and urged government of India to register its strong protest before UN so that attacks should be stopped. Also urged to provide necessary aid to the people of Gaza.

Students Islamic Organization of India condemns unhindered attacks launched by Israel from airspace and land at Gaza, in Palestine since last 4 days. As peace loving citizens of India and part of the global community concerned against human rights violations, We the Students Islamic Organisation condemns Israel’s barbarism in Palestine that has caused massive deaths including a huge number of women and children.

By profuse bombardment of Gaza town, Israel troops have killed at least 400 Palestinians. Though the Israel has claimed to target Hamas centers, it has incessantly poured bombs through serial strikes over mosques, schools, residential enclaves and hospitals. With this barbaric act Israel has exhibited its true colors.

Does it make any sense for UN Security Council to merely watch this massacre silently? Is there any doubt on Israeli PM, Ehud Olmert being a war criminal? America which boasts itself as Human Rights champion of the world condones the aggression of Israel and shamelessly vetos the resolution on Israel’s aggresion at UN Security Council on 44 occasions. As such, America has lost its credentials of dictating peace and justice to the world. Apart from which, America not only helps in providing arms to Israel, but also lends its ideological support through the domination of the world Media.

SIO Bangalore city condemns the apathy and inaction shown by the international community, UN Security Council and Indian government over the genocide carried on by Israel unilaterally violating all International conventions and norms. UN Security Council should immediately annul all diplomatic and trade relations with Israel. SIO also urges the union government to immediately arrange to dispatch food and medicines and humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza who are already into starvations and death due to sanctions imposed for over a month. Israel, which has been unleashing all sorts of genocide, war and violence on Palestinian people for decades, now deserves to be called a terrorist state. Protest Aganist Terrorism

Karnataka Zone held a massive protest on 30th Nov 2008 at Vallababai Patel, Gulbarga marking the end of the three day long state level SIO cadre meet. The agitation was against the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai. The protest demanded a free and fair investigation into the terror episode with out any pre-conceived notion and should be forwarded for judicial declarations. The protest was lead by Br. Hashmathulla khan, General Secretary, SIO of India and Br. Laeequllah Khan Mansoori, Zonal President, SIO Karnataka Zone respectively.

SIO expresses its deepest condolence to the hundreds of innocent lives which were lost in the attack. SIO also expresses its gratitude to the security personal NSG, ATS, army and police for their brave hearted effort and courage in flushing out the entire terrorists. We are alarmed by the report of foreign groups being involved in the attacks. We urge the government of India to identify these foreign groups and to reassure the nation that such threats are being dealt with in an effective manner.

SIO strongly demands that the government must ensure police enquiry into the incident and must not be limited to the direction of emails and SMS claiming terror operations, instead the law should take its own course of action. Though there are more reasons to believe that politics of polarizing two major communities of India might have played behind the curtains, but there has been a biased enquiry in many of the recent bombings. SIO reiterates that if the real culprits are not being hunted soon, it would only result in destabilizing our country. SIO also raises apprehensions that at a time when "new caste and religion" of terrorism is being exposed and old rhetoric being demolished, there are chances of the Mumbai terror incidences being an act of a group of people who want to divert the latest enquiries

India is emerging as a formidable power in the world today. It has gained a significant place in science and technology, industrial development, nuclear energy, IT sector and other fields too. This is an outstanding outcome of the combined efforts of innumerable people.
This bouquet of different cultures and communities, is unfortunately shadowed by caste conflicts, communal hatred, regional chauvinism. Despite the abundant natural resources and tremendous economic boom the widening gulf between the rich and poor, farmers’ suicides and the starvation deaths are as if not enough causes of concern, we have the separatist, militant and terrorist tendencies too raising their ugly heads.
In spite of a strong state machinery, powerful police force, pro active judiciary and vigilant media separatists in the far eastern states, naxalites in the eastern part are gaining grounds. The Marathi-Hindi chauvinism is spilling over. Atrocities, genocides, annihilation of areas and localities are on the raise. Bride burning, stripping of women and their parading have even lost their news value. Like wise the vandalizing of religious places, planting bombs at public places and killing innocents is becoming part of social life. Strangely our police and intelligence learn about these events like the commoners only after they take place.
Just think over! Is it up to a welfare state and a civilized society to allow a particular group to perpetrate atrocities on the weaker sections and the minorities? In order to curb terrorism kill the youths of a particular community in fake encounters and custodies? To abuse the innocents as terrorists before any inquiry is held and even deprive them from legal help to prove their innocence? To shoot and kill the protestors against injustice? This horrible and painful scenario makes a mockery of our esteemed civilization, towers of development and the flying flags of scientific advancement.
It appears that the state machinery is helpless, police is crippled and intelligence is clueless. People are left at the mercy of brutes. More worry some is the attitude of men at the helm of affairs of shirking away from the responsibility by throwing blame on others. Still more horrible is that the agony of the unfortunates is looked at as a fitting strategy in the election politics and short cut to the seat of power. Neither the sense of accountability nor the fear of law has touched the power mongers.
Criminals too have gained entry into the legislatures, communalists too have put on the respectable khaki uniforms, and short sighted and people indifferent to the consequences too have become saviors of law. Amongst them a few honest, dutiful and humane persons have remained helpless and ineffective. Equally helpless is the majority of the aspirants of peace and justice.
For every true patriot the situation is very alarming rather, challenging. The situation heralds for immediate action. It is time for us to stand up for the cause of the oppressed, the deprived, and the crippled. We should strive to establish the supremacy of law and justice, love and peace, harmony and brother hood. Law should be allowed to take its course of action against the oppressors. No caste and community feelings should come in the way. Truth, honesty, peace and justice should prevail upon the majority and minority feelings.
In order to bring this awakening and mobilize the awakened for a sincere course of action, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, a premier Islamic organization of India has organized Caravan of Peace and Justice across the country from 10th to 25th November 2008. Eid Get-Together was held at Salaam Centre, SRK garden, Bangalore under the aegis of Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Bangalore City. Inaugurating the program SIO, All India president Bishruddin Sharki said there must be exchanges of communication between various communities and people of various faiths. There can not be monolithic integration but definitely democratic integration is all that we require achieving peace and progress.

The guest speaker Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, Sri Shankar M Bidari speaking on the occasion alluded to the strong Constitution of India that our freedom fighters have given us and some people or a group cannot sabotage its values. He said “We do not claim that police alone can achieve peace. It hails from honest, peace loving citizens.” He regretted how a handful of miscreants belonging to minority community has got a bad name to its 12 crore population community. However he detested such a labeling. He emphasized the importance of this Eid Get together gathering which definitely helps to promote harmony.

Another speaker Dr B Rame Gowda, member Kannada Sahithya Parishat applauded the muslim students in education and integration effort through out India. This unadvertised and unsung group would pave the way for strong moral force in our society.

Another Speaker Rev. Vincent Rajkumar, Director Of Christian Institute for Study of Religion and Society said fasting endows Muslims with an immense opportunity to correct themselves, cleanse their surroundings, respond to the lesser privileged ones, it also has immense lessons for other communities.

Mr Mohd Kunhi another guest speaker who heads Shanti Prakashan, Mangalore also spoke on this occasion. He said that due to each religious group remaining as islands, we have come to a sorry state where they do not know each other.

Dr Saad Belgaumi, President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bangalore presided and concluded this function. He emphasized on this type of gatherting in the plural society in India.

Ramadhan: Time for introspection

Once again the holy month of Ramadhan is knocking at the doors of our fleeting lives. This is the annual season of sincere introspection, moral revitalisation, renewal of commitment and revival of Islamic spirit, for every individual and for the Ummah as a whole. This is the month in which the Last Testament of Allah addressed to entire humanity, the Holy Qur’an, was revealed as the abiding source of guidance and inspiration for one and all.
Every individual Muslim spends this month in remembrance of God, prayers and special worship of daylong fasting. The nights are spent in special Taraweeh prayers in which the whole of Qur’an from Al-Fatihah to Al-Nas is recited and listened to with rapt attention, deep devotion and thoughtful contemplation.
This is the month in which sustenance (rizq) of a believer is increased abundantly. Man does not leave on bread alone. Our moral needs are also fulfilled in this month by Divine dispensation. We are lavishly blessed with our moral requirements – deeper faith, greater devotion and nobler character. Even lesser mortals among us aspire for higher moral traits of humanity. This is the month of learning the art of loving human beings, sharing their sorrows and addressing their concerns and enhancing our capacity for fighting the system that promotes poverty and ignorance.
We speak about difficult times through which the Ummah is passing. No doubt we see everywhere ever increasing difficulties for the Ummah. There is an atmosphere of misunderstandings which are being spread with passionate vigour. The so-called war on terror is directed against Islam and Muslims. In India also we see efforts to equate Islam with violence and terror. Educated youth, professionals and even religious scholars are being harassed day in and day out. Unfortunately a very bad image of Muslims is being built and every Muslim has been made an object of suspicion. But there is no dearth of good hearted people who are fighting hatred and suspicion. They understand that this atmosphere being created by vested interests and communal politicians will lead to long lasting and destructive consequences. This may prove to be very harmful for the amity and cohesion of our plural society. It has the potential to destroy the country’s future and throw it in never ending conflicts. Let us work hard and do the stupendous task of image correction with the help of people of understanding.
Let us learn the biggest lessons of the month – dependence on Allah, confidence in our destiny, patience, perseverance, cool analytical thinking and honest introspection. Have we done our duty properly? Are we up to the mark? Do we present the best example of human character? Let us learn in this month of Sabr how to be steadfast in the face of adversity. Let us remember that we have to live not only for ourselves but for the good of all, with the sole objective of earning the pleasure of Allah. We have a special duty towards our fellow countrymen of raising the level of their God-consciousness and fighting the forces of immorality and corrupt materialism. Great task indeed. May Allah give us wisdom, strength and patience to do the needful. May this Ramadhan bring the gland tidings of ethical rejuvenation for us. “Bombers had done the most heinous crime against humanity spoiling society’s peace and harmony, it is necessary for the people to maintain peace and harmony in this situation” said Md Bilal, Secretary, SIO Karnataka Zone. He was present in a peaceful demonstration conducted by SIO, Bangalore City at Mahatma Gandhi statue on 28th of July to protest against the serial bomb blasts that ripped Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Banners were used to protest against the bomb blasts and urged the people of the whole country to remain calm and maintain communal harmony. SIO Bangalore City President Isthiyakh was also present in the protest. Be it Mumbai, Jaipur, Malegao, Gujarat carnage, Akhsardham, Mecca Masjid, Bangalore or Ahmedabad, terrorists are successful in creating a terror atmosphere through out the country. With this protest SIO demands the Government that the perpetrators of bombings have to be brought in front of justice. At the same time innocents must not be tortured or punished as it is happening in various parts of the country. It will only help the actual criminals played behind this crime. SIO urges that in this situation political parties instead of playing a blame game should put their efforts together to find a real and amicable solution. It is not right to blame a particular community when the investigation is in the initial stage.

Nayak The expression “Social and Economic Justice” involves the concept of ‘distributive justice’, which connotes the removal of economic inequalities and rectifying the justice resulting from dealings of transactions between unequal in society – said Honorable Justice S.R Nayak, Chairperson, Karnataka state Human Rights Commission. He was addressing a seminar on ‘Social Justice in Education Sector’ organized by SIO Karnataka Zone here in Bangalore. By mentioning the various Articles of Indian constitution Mr. Nayak stressed the need of Social Justice in Education sector.
